One Sketch, Three Ways

Melissa here, with another sketch to whet your creative whistle! This time I'll show you a couple of different ways to interpret the sketch so you can see that it's all about interpretation. First, let's take a look at the sketch:

It's a relatively simple design, with one large photo (designed to be 5x7, but you could easily adapt this to 4x6 or you could use 2 3 1/2x5 portrait-oriented photos), a few strips of paper, some embellishment clusters, and a large, graphic title. But today, I'm going to show you that it's OK to move things around, to leave things out, and to take this and make it something completely different, as well.

First, let's take a look at my interpretation with a 12x12 scrapbook page:

Flamingo Scraps products: Studio Calico wood veneers. Theresa Collins Now & Then paper, chipboard elements, die cut shapes. Webster's Pages alphabet stickers. Tim Holtz Distress Ink (weathered wood). Other: washi tape, corrugated shapes.

As you can see, I stuck pretty closely to the sketch. I used one photo, but I gave everything a little cattywampus tilt just to give it more movement against the structured grid background. I left out an embellishment cluster altogether and moved my journaling so it was beside my photo instead of under it in place of the missing embellishment cluster.

I shared the sketch with the other Flamingo girls and Alicia was inspired by this sketch and shared her take with me:

She kept to the sketch pretty closely, as well, sticking to one photo, and moving a cluster to meet her needs. A quick close up of her cluster shows you that her page offers tons of dimension and fun bits of bling.

I took it a step further for you this time, and thought you'd like to see how to use the sketch to make something that is not a scrapbook page craft ,so I made a card with it, using almost all the same supplies that I used to create my page.

Flamingo Scraps products: Studio Calico wood veneers. Theresa Collins
Now & Then paper, die cut shapes. Prima flowers. Other: Chalk Ink, kraft card base.

Do you see what I did there? I used the space provided for the photo as a main focal point, moved the title down and kept the embellishment clusters relatively the same, just scaled down to one item each instead of three. I switched to a solid background and isn't that music notes paper in the main block just perfect with the sentiment?

I hope that you've found tons of inspiration from today's sketch, and saw how it can be a versatile tool in your scrapbook and craft arsenal. If you use this sketch, please feel free to leave a comment with a link to it in this post, or better yet, share it on the Flamingo Scraps facebook page! Don't forget to check out the products used today in the Flamingo Scraps store at eBay or at the new location on the web!
