Old vintage layout using the Flamingo Scraps Warehouse Box Papers

This layout was made with papers from the Warehouse Sale Box — Paper Box. These boxes are packed full of goodies and you may or may not get the papers used on this layout. It is the Toy Box Collection by Crate Paper. I used several different medias on this layout. I actually added some Heidi Swapp Color Shine Tinsel and mixed it with Heavy Gel Medium and then used a stencil from Prima-Crackle.

Next, I fussy cut out one of the black and white graphics from the paper and used my Prisma colored pencils and Gamsol to blend the colors.

I used burlap and cut it in strips to add to the top and bottom of the layout and used Tim Holtz buckles to add some metal.

I also used some Fancy Pants Cork Shapes Arrows inking them up with Prima Chalk Ink Edgers Rusty Bucket. I also used a Tim Holtz Adornments Charms and some Prima Tiny Junkyard Findings Vintage Trinkets — Sampler.

After finishing this layout I thought I have these Melissa Frances 3 Flower Hanger — 4″ and Melissa Frances Double Flower Clip. I love the way they look on the wall and you can interchange your layouts with different ones.

Suzanne's Favorites from 2011!!!

I will think of 2011 as the year I realized some truths about my papercrafting!!!!  And I think it is all due to some of the fabulous products that came out last year!!

I realized I have a strong tendency toward graphic collections -- I always assumed I was a shabby chic crafter,  but now I think of myself more as vintage graphic!!!  I fell MADLY in love with Fancy Pants' It's the Little Things and Lily Bee's This and That!

I love bright, vivid colors!!  I simply fell head over heels for the colors in Webster's Pages Sunday Picnic!!  Having this as a fave is kinda cheating as it came out at the tail end of the year.  I am just enchanted by the Perfect Accents and truthfully, I'm afraid this might be one of those things that is too beautiful to use!  Look for other styles of these to be in the store -- one set even has a FLAMINGO CAMEO!!!!

And lastly, my "why didn't I think of that" new product -- Cosmo Cricket's Glubers (which simply flew out the store and were impossible to find).   Another item that made me remember I love to make my own embellishments and the results are not too shabby...well, they are kinda shabby, but not in a bad way...OH!!!  You know what I mean!!!!

Shabby Chic Cigar Box

A few weeks ago I shared with you the altered cigar boxes that I've been doing for a swap on Facebook. Today I want to give you a closer look at Shabby Chic box #2.

When I think of Shabby Chic I think of pastel colors and a project that looks as though it has weathered time. A softer side of grunge. Most people think of Shabby Chic and they reach for pink, blue, and yellow, but I wanted something different. I decided to use the Hollywood Vogue collection from Webster's Pages. I love the elegance of this paper line and the colors offered that hint of the unexpected I was wanting with its peach, lavender, and green color pallet.

Altered Cigar Boxes

Lately I have been participating in a monthly swap for altered cigar boxes, and I thought it would be fun to share them with you guys today. This is what the “naked” box looks like. This box is 8x8 and was in the unfinished wood section at your craft department stores. Flamingo Scraps has lots of yummy products for decorating them.

JRR Hill Family -- Pink Paislee Butterfly Garden!

I am really fortunate to have lots of vintage photographs of my family.  And when I first saw the shabby elegant Pink Paislee Butterfly Garden Collection, I just knew it would be perfect to highlight some of my treasured old photos!

The elderly gentleman with the long beard is my great great grandfather, James R R Hill.  We haven't yet figured out what the two Rs stand for!  The man in the long tie and the woman with the braid on her blouse are my great grandparents, Arthur H. and Della Dutton Hill, and the little boy standing to the left of the pram is my grandfather, Arthur Milburn Hill!  James and his wife Nancy Knowles had 12 children!  Bless Nancy's heart, I have a portrait of her and she looks like she had 12 children -- she is nicknamed the Ugly Lady!

Altered Frame

You could hear me scream for miles when Marion Smith, Educator and Designer for Prima Marketing, asked me to design something using her vintage trinkets line. I felt so honored, and wanted this to be perfect.
I decided to create this beautiful frame.

From Flamingo Scraps:  Prima Reflections Paper, Vintage Trinkets, Frame, and Flower; Tim Holtz Walnut Distress Ink; Cinnamon Stickles.
Other Supplies: Tim Holtz Broken China Distress Stains, glass beads.

I started with a simple wooden frame, and painted the base using the Tim Holtz Broken China stains, then edged the sides with walnut ink.  I chose my favorite Prima paper from the winter 2011 release – “Reflections” from the Reflections Collections to cover the frame.


With a second sheet of paper, I fussy cut the butterflies and flowers. This gives the paper a 3D effect, and really calls attention to this beautiful paper.



Then I framed the opposite edge with Marion’s vintage flower trinkets, Cherry Blossom Vines, and a few vintage Prima flowers. For an added "WOW factor, I cut a few petals from the large Vintage Trinket Flowers, strung some glass beads for the center and this beautiful butterfly was born.

Marion said "it's awesome", and that was all I needed to hear!

I took advantage of this terrific sketch for the Page Maps Challenge to showcase some precious vintage photos of my mother using Webster's Pages Hollywood Vogue!  The Hollywood Vogue collection is simply fabulous -- great colors and patterns, and fabulous embellies!!  I am a backside of Webster's Pages kind of girl and the "backsides" were perfect for this layout as the multiphoto sketch covers so much of the patterned paper!

Glittery Christmas Ornaments!!

OK, I admit it, I am a Dollar Tree Addict!!!!  Dollar Stores are just treasure troves for paper crafters, especially around any holiday!  I got these gorgeous glittery ornaments and, inspired by Facebook friend, Pam Kellogg, (who does the most beautiful work!),  altered them with vintage images and some supplies from Flamingo Scraps!

inks, coated with Tim Holtz distress stickles, and embellished with Maya
Road Hanging Chandelier beads

I happened to have a program with fabulous vintage Christmas images, but these are available many places online.  I printed them out on textured cardstock and cut them out with a Spellbinders scalloped die.  I then inked them with Tim Holtz Distress Inks, coated them with Tim Holtz Distress Stickles in Rock Candy and Bundled Sage, and embellished some of them with Maya Road Chandelier Beads.  Using hot glue, I attached them to the ornaments and they are ready to add sparkle to a Christmas tree or as a package topper!

So easy and so much fun!!!  Happy Holidays!!!

Cosmo Cricket -- Circa 1934!!!

I just love the Old Page Maps Challenge on Scrapbook.com!  The Page Maps inspire me, the challenge inspires me and the other scrapppers in the challenge inspire me!!!!  This is my interpretation of the Week #4 sketch for the Old Page Maps Challenge Round #22!!

I had been dying to use the new Cosmo Cricket Circa 1934 just in at Flamingo Scraps.  The colors and patterns are just gorgeous.  I must say the only thing that would have made this picture a better match for these fabulous papers was if it had been taken a year earlier!!!!  Jump on over to the store and snatch up some of this fantastic paper -- it is going fast!

Guest DT Jolaine Frias: Vintage-Print Flowers Tutorial

Hello everyone! Jolaine here, happy to share with you one of my favorite flowers. I'm calling them Vintage-Print flowers. They're a quick and easy addition to any project.

You will need:

• Pages from an old book
• Scalloped circle punches in three different sizes or die cutting machine
• Glimmer Mist in your choice of color
• Distress Ink in your choice of color
• Brads or flower centers
• Liquid adhesive

1.  Start by cutting 2 scallop circles in three different sizes in 1/2 inch increments. I cut mine at 2", 11/2", and 1" using my Cricut machine. Because my book is very old, the pages are very delicate so I made sure the pressure was set to low on my machine. Don't worry if they rip; they don't need to be perfect!

2.  Moisten your circles with Glimmer Mist.

3.  While the paper is still moist, scrunch them up to make them distressed. Use your heat tool to dry them.

4.  Carefully unfold the scrunched up balls and stack the circles.

5.  Secure with a brad, or add liquid adhesive and a flower center to adhere the scallop circles together.

6.  To add some dimension, run a Distress Ink pad on the edges.

7.  Voila! Customized flowers for your project!
