More Fun, New Prima and Maya Road

I just have to mention how much fun I have been having with all the new goodies I got at Flamingo Scraps last week. These products are just so gorgeous. I am going to be sad when I run out. Of course, new things are coming soon, keep your eye out.  I will give you a little hint;  PP, WP.  Don't tell the boss I told you.  hee hee

I found some beautiful German glass glitter the other day and couldn't wait to try it out.  The Maya Road butterflies that Lisa Pace has made over on the Maya Road DT blog are gorgeous, so I thought I would give them a try myself.  I really liked the way they came out, and they were perfect with the Prima papers.  A little help from a pagemaps sketch and......

I used more of the Raspberry Tea paper, and stamped my cardstock with an acrylic stamp with some Iridescent Pearl Maya Mist.  Some pretty Prima flowers and a Say it in Pearls and Roses, some Maya Road chipboard butterflies, Deborah mini font and a few of the floral stick pins. And I was just about done.  I Love the new Prima packaging, perfect for journaling later.

Tutorial: Organizing Mists

So I tend to be a collector.  I have 10 linear feet of patterned paper in cropper hoppers (no joke)... a basket of flowers sorted by color (we will get to that some other time!).... and my mists.  There are 22 of them.  Yep, you read that right.... TWENTY TWO.  eek!  So in my newly reorganized office, I desparately needed a way to know what colors I have to play with and what they look like because they are in a basket in the new closet.  And I am forever forgetting what colors I have.  So I created this handy little swatch book to toss on my desktop in my basket of most used stickles, ink pads and paint dabbers:

First, I cut two pieces of plain white 12x12" cardstock into 3x3" squares, which gave me 32 squares.  (Room to grow I hope!)

Then I punched one edge with my favorite edge punch at the moment (martha stewart mini scallop heart) and the remaining two corners with a corner rounder.

My fingers hurt after all that punching!!

So before I start spraying mists everywhere, I cleared the desktop and put down some scrap chipboard (leftover from a paper pack) to catch any stray mist.  Newspaper would work well too.  And I busted out my trusty sharpie pen.  Before spraying a card, I made sure to write down exactly which mist I was using!

So then I took each of the sprays in my stash one at a time and gave each 3x3" square a spray or two to cover about half of the area.  I wanted to make sure that I still showed a good portion of the white to give me a point of reference to compare to. 

Once I had my pile of 22 sample cards, I took two of my blank cards and played a little with my new Maya Resist.  I freehand spelled out "My Mist Stash" with the resist.  I have to say that I am in LOVE with the Maya Resist!  The bottle comes with this fabulous lid that has a pin already built into it -- no trying to unplug the bottle EVER!  Also, the tip is super fine which allows for all kinds of control.  I would guess that the tip is about the size of a pin head.  It isn't like a bottle of stickles or glue with a wide application tip.  Trust me, you will love this stuff!

So once you have the Maya Resist on there, just walk away and let it dry for a while.  Once it was dry, I came back and misted several colors on my cover cards to make them stand out from the rest of my swatches.

Once they dried completely, I peeled off the resist leaving me with this super cool cover:

Note:  It is very important to make sure your paper is completely dry before trying to peel the resist off the paper!!

When everything was dry, I punched a hole in the upper left hand corner of each swatch with my cropodile and used a ring to attach them altogether! 

Now I have a great little "cheat sheet" for my mist stash, which also comes in handy when I'm drooling over the fabulous new colors of Maya Mist and trying to decide what to buy!

A Little Contest

My box of yummy new goodies came this week, and like a lot of you, I couldn't wait to find the time to play.  So many fun, new goodies.  The mojo was strong and I so wanted to use everything in my box.  So I created these.....

And now for the contest.

With these two layouts (3 pages) I used a total of  21 different products that are (were recently, stuff is moving fast) available in the Flamingo Scraps store.

If I used the same item on both pages, it only counts once.  Stickers from the same sheet would also, only count once.  Remember that we also carry mists and it is possible that I have colored an item or two. (hint, hint)

Hi, my name is Amanda...

And I am addicted to Primas.  There, I admitted to it.  And yes, it's a disease!   Do you have it too?! 

I'm so excited to be here to show you some the cool stuff I learned at the Winter CHA classes I took on stamping and mists, as well as all of the fun things you could do with all this fabulous new stuff arriving in the store.   Since CHA, life has been very busy for me -- my brother visited from the east coast, we gutted/rebuilt/reorganized the scraproom closet and I turned 30.  There has not been a lot of time for playing with my stash of scrappy goodies.  In fact, we just got back from a family vacation to Disneyland -- our first big family vacation all together in seventeen years!  We had a great time and took a ton of pictures, all just begging to be scrapped.

So you can definitely expect to see some Disney layouts using your favorite new products in the Flamingo Scraps store (and even some tutorials!)... keep an eye out over the next few weeks as I begin playing with those pictures and products! So aside from Disney stuff, what else can you expect to see out of me? Well I tend to scrapbook my husband, our wedding, our pets, my nephew, family and friends the most.  And I love to experiment and play with my scrappy toys, so hopefully I can show ya a cool new trick or two.

I Love Flowers

Yep, I love flowers.  I love flowers in my house, I love flowers in my garden, and I love flowers on my paper crafting projects.  I have been using and collecting flowers since those first bottles of Prima's Got Flowers hit the shelves at my local scrapbook store.

The flowers have changed a lot since those first bottles of flat flowers came out.  But they still make them.  And you can find them in the store as e-line flowers.  These are great fun, and can be used in so many different ways.

For this project, I decided I needed a small, more dimensional flower.  I had some flowers that were about the right size, but didn't really have the depth I was looking for.  So, I thought of some tutorials I have seen lately.  Lots of people making roses from 5 petal flowers.  Well, I have tons of 5 petal flowers all lined up on my shelf.

Here are the things I used; pink got flowers, glue, scissors and some yellow stickles (also in the store).

It only took 2 flowers to create this new flower.  All I did was cut one of the petals off one of the flowers.

I then glued the open edges back together.  This created more of a bowl shape to my flower.

You can really see the dimension now.

I then took the small petal I had cut earlier and glued its edges together as well.

I glued the three petal flower to the uncut flower.

and then added the single petal. 

 Finally I dropped in some stickles.

After making a handful of these lovely little roses

I made this.....

I loved the extra added dimension these flowers added to my floral spray.  I used a Cerise Fluttervine, some Bittles, and an orange Medici, all from Prima, as well.  I snuck in a bit of the Prima packaging as a photo mat and placed it all on a paper from the Paradise City line.

DELIGHTFUL DETAILS!!

I have a fabulous Secret Pal, who sent me the most gorgeous and inspiring new book -- Lisa Pace's Delight in the Details.  Not only is it full of wonderful ideas and techniques, it makes a really important point about artistic scrapbooking!  The difference between a good and a great layout or project lies largely in the attention to detail -- or in my case the difference between an average layout and a slightly above average layout or project!!!!

And it just so happens that many of the items Lisa uses to create these wonderful details are in stock at Flamingo Scraps or on order (or in my stash!).  Among these fab products are stickles, Primas, Maya Mists, ribbons and trims, paper lines that are on their way, and the Ranger products we have on order (that is another story!)

My first project inspired by Lisa's work was this fun Maya Road Mega Bottle Cap --

These bottle caps are three inches in diameter and can be used for page embellishments as well as decorative projects.  For this one I used a crepe paper rosette from Delight in the Details, edged it with silver stickles and adhered it to the back of the cap.  Then I used vintage sheet music for the center and butterfly, covered both with crackle glossy accents medium and added a Prima lavender wreath and a miscellaneous chipboard letter with bling.  The finishing touch was one of Maya Roads new Dangling Chandelier Beads -- a snap to attach with a cropadile and jump ring.

I had so much fun with this one -- I had to do another and chose an Easter theme.

For this cap -- perfect for that special Easter basket or and Easter tree -- I printed a vintage Easter image on laser jet canvas, attached it with zip dry (my new fave adhesive!) and coated it with a thin layer of crackle glossy accents.  I ran a line of Strawberry Ice stickles around the perimeter and attached the cap to a scalloped circle cut from an old book page.  The paper scallop is distressed with milled lavender Tim Holtz ink and the edges are tipped with old rose ink.  I topped it off with a tiny bouquet of  Prima mini roses and threaded some Prima lace from which to hang the cap.

Y'all have got to try these versatile Mega Bottle Caps -- my next one is going to be a Christmas ornament!!!  More inspiration from Delight in the Details coming soon!

Fun With Maya Mist!

Well, it's Friday night and lots of you may be going out for the evening.  Heading out with friends, or if you are still in school, maybe to a dance.  If you are like my girls, maybe you would like to dress up your jeans a little.

Maya Mist and a Crafter's Companion stencil to the rescue.

On these I used the Iridescent pearl and a heart and flourish stencil.  The effect is a little more subtle.

Here I used a star type pattern and blue mist.

Well, just a few quick sprays and we are ready to go.  And, since the mists are water based, they just wash out in the washing machine (yes, I did test this on some scrap fabric first).  The girls are already busy looking at the other stencils we have and thinking of what color combinations they would like to try.  Guess I will need to start hiding my mists.  LOL

Just another fun thing you can do with your mists.

Did You Know?

That lots of new Prima goodies went into the store today (which, are flying off the shelves)?  And that more Prima (e-line) will be going up in the next few days?  If not tomorrow?

That the Maya Road products are selling quickly, and we are planning on doing some special mist tutorials soon?

That we will be getting some of the new Tim Holtz distress inks and crackle paints, as well as glossy and crackle accents?

And, finally, that Pink Paislee has a new online magazine filled with tons of inspiration?  And you can download it here for free.    This is the inaugural issue and it features some beautiful projects made with the new paper lines that should be shipping in the next few weeks.  It also includes many technique ideas including glitter and shaped papers.  And one of my favorites, a sketch challenge.

Inspiration

I hope you were able to find some fun things in the store over the weekend.  I know I did.  Now, all I need is some time...and a little inspiration.

My good friend Heather offered to share a few of her beautiful designs to help me get motivated to use some of my Lily Bee Vintage Poppy.  She also offered to let me share them with you.  You may know Heather from her screen name, Miracle's Momma.  If you would like to learn more about her you can read her blog here.

I love the use of lines and symmetry in her design.  The beautiful use of color and bits of bling.  I hope you enjoy them as well.

Marks Paper Company

I love the Courtship collection from Marks Paper Company.  The colors of the paper are just beautiful and the texture of the paper is fabulous, almost like fabric.  I have done a few layout with it that I am happy with, but had a bit of the paper left and just couldn't figure out a way to use.  Until I started thinking "home decor".  The colors are perfect for my home, soft and pretty, neutral enough not to clash with anything, but enough color that they aren't "white".

 Bits of the papers, some beautiful Prima bloom that I added stickles to, a butterfly vine I chopped, inked and stickled and some velvet trim.  Before glittering the chipboard title, I misted with brown to make sure no naked chipboard would be showing.  So much quicker than paint.

I mounted the top layers (through the red) onto a piece of chipboard  and adhered.  Then I glued the brown piece of cardstock to the back, face up and went around with my scallop scissors.  Thanks to Lisa Pace for showing me the trick to getting the perfect edge around your chipboard project.  Just follow the line of your chipboard.  No more cutting and then gluing for me.  And it really added quite a bit of depth to the project.

Here you can see that I munged the leaves to help them tie into the overall color scheme with some walnut ink.  I also added more platinum stickles to the petals.

One last project.....

The light here isn't very good, but you can see how beautiful the papers blend together on the KaiserKraft memo board.

A Little Rebellion

Funny how we see a project made with some paper or embellishment, when it is first released, go hunting for it, but never find it.  Something new comes along and we forget how much we loved that item and simply had to have it.  And then.....our luck changes...a sale comes along ....and we see those beautiful things again.  That's a little how I feel about these papers.

I remember when Rebellious first came out, how fun and funky it was.  How totally different in style from many of Prima's other things.  How perfect it would be for photos of my daughters.  How badly I wanted it!

Well, now here it is, on sale!  I had to wait a bit.  But on sale?  What is better than that!

This line is so fresh and funky. So much fun to play with.  Perfect for those teens and tweens.

And do you remember Prima's Flirty Little Secrets?  Some gorgeous pieces are still available (and on sale)!

So be sure to come by the Sweetheart of a Sale this weekend.  You never know what forgotten treasures you may find.

Everything Old....

It has been a bit of a lazy week around here.  Feeling a little under the weather with a bad cold, so dh decided to help out and take care of all the running around and a lot of the cooking.  And, being that I was sick, I didn't really feel much like going out or doing much anyway.  

What is a girl to do?  Well, I did organize the scrap stash a bit, which led to the realization that I need to use some supplies if I hope to make room for some of the new and wonderful things Suzanne has been sneaking here on the blog.  It also has made me think about all the wonderful goodies I may need to stalk up on before they are gone for good.

I love, love, love the Postcards from Paris line by Webster's Pages.  Why is it I haven't used any?...well, until now.

Lovely Paris Couture paper, Edged Blue Velvet trim, Alpha Stickers, Silhouette and Fabric Fancies from Webster's Pages and a Prima Trellis Rose.  I found the butterflies as a free image using Google.  A little Pearl Maya Mist, some embossing and they were beautiful and sparkly.

Here I used the enchanting Winter Wings Papers with more of the Alpha and Die Cut Stickers and a bit of trim all from Webster's Pages.  So quick and easy 

And finally some Pink Paislee for these photos I took of the children at my sisters a few weeks ago.   From the Amber Road Collection, Bonfire, Postcards, and Harvest Hayride.  Some more gorgeous trim from Webster's, this time in the Cocoa Ruffle and a Prima.  A few other scraps of trim and lace, rub ons and a chipboard alphabet.  

Being ill may not be the best, but it did afford me some much needed scrapping time.
