I must!...I must!...I must! Use my all my crafty stuff.

Do you make New Year Resolutions?

I did this year.  I, Luann, resolve to use all my crafty stuff that I have horded.

With that said, I have a mini album and a little wood box that I would like to share with you.  I have wanted to embellish this wood box for over three years.  My inspiration was my aunt who dearly loves hot tea, roses, and her birthday this month.  Flamingo Scraps carries the Marion Smith's paper lines Nirvana and Mad Tea Party and match made in Wonderland was made.

First, I gave the box a coat of gesso.  Then painted with a rose chrome metallic paint.  To give the some depth I used Ranger Gold Acryilic Paint and dabbed it on with a piece of towel. I cut the paper to fit by using the box as the guide.  I used Mod-Podge to glue the paper and let it dry over night.  I then gave the paper a top coat of Mod Podge and let it dry for a couple of hours.  I did use Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Vintage Photo and Vintage Jeans to finish the edges.

I used Prima roses, fussie cut a picture from Graphic 45 Ladies Diary paper line and the corset stamp on the Nirvana paper.  I sprayed the blue rose with Heidi Swapp Teal Color Shine for a pop of color.  I just love the way it turned out!

Now the what to in this little box?   I could put in some Rolo's candy (my aunt was telling me about a Rolo Cheesecake she is going to make for her birthday). However,  I went with the orginal idea - mini  

It is a mini 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" .  I used the cardboard I saved from my new 2014 calendar for the center.  I cut the Nirvana and Mad Tea Party papers to size and glued to the cardboard. The edges were distressed with my Prima distresser and inked with Tim Holtz Distress Inks.  I had a Prima Treasures window that just fit. I found a cameo in my stash.  Don't you think it looks like the girl is looking out the window? The clock charm is from my stash.  I'm going embellish the other pages after I find the photo's I want to use.  I'll give you a look when I'm done.

Let's see!  I did keep to my resolution. I used a few things that I had for a time.  I did use some new papers, Marion Smith, which I love.

Floral Hair Bow Holder

Now that my daughter's hair is getting longer and she is collecting bows for her hair, I wanted to make something that would display her bows and also act as a decoration for her new room.  The room itself was already painted purple, so I took that idea and went with it.

Here you can see the holder without and bows hanging from it (picture below of it in her room hanging on the wall).  I added in tons of Prima flowers and Crystal flourishes to really make this stand out.  You can also see the Webser's ruffled bloomers trim at the top as the hanger.

I used heavy duty chipboard for the letters and the circle.  I glued the floral paper to the chipboard with crafters glue, then covered the everything with multi-medium matte by Claudine Hellmuth to seal everything in.  After it dried I took Prima chalk inks in similar colors and inked the edges of all the chipboard items.

Here you can see the holder and up on the wall in my daughter's room with the bows attached the to the hanging ribbon at the bottom.  I like this because I can see all the bows, plus it adds to the decor of the room.  The "C" stands for Catherine and the "R" is for Reed.

All around the edges of the circle I added in about 5 yards of various colors of tutu tulle by Maya Road.  I cut up the yards and layered them going around the circle giving it a dimensional effect.

Every year, for the past five years, we have attended Burgers and Butterflies to help remember our little girl Kristen. We release butterflies to help us remember our little ones that are no longer with us. 

This is the first year Catherine was aware of the butterflies around her, and one little butterfly stayed on top of her head for about 30 minutes. We like to think it was her sister giving her kisses.

Hi all! Ramona here with my F4 project. I was so stumped on this one, and had to think hard for this idea. After much thinking, I took the canvas route. I used many products to achieve the worn and tattered look. I really enjoyed these products. Enjoy !!

When I saw the goodies for the December F4 I immediately thought of a garden. I used a paper box from my stash, and painted it with TH paints, Weathered Wood and Bundled Sage. First I put on a coat of gesso, and while that was drying I went to work on the bird cage chipboard element. I laid a brick walkway using a stencil and some light modeling paste.The gate is Maya Road vintage fences and doorways. The Prima flowers looked like a pink sun to me. Here's hoping  you have a wonderful 2014 and that all your dreams come true.

Here in the Natale household, finding a good vet is probably more important than finding a good people doctor. Luckily we not only have a good vet, we have a GREAT vet! For this F4 I decided to make a birthday card from our pets,. The flowers pot is made with the Maya Road canvas buttons and I embroidered the stems. The naughty pet footprints are from a stamp I used TH distress paint on.

Our youngest cat Lulu is the hunter/trouble maker so this was perfect for her. Ironically enough, there was a bird that went in the cage, but Lulu knocked it off of my table and my golden retriever ate it. So much for the cat that ate the canary!!

Chip Board Mini Album Christmas Banner

I love mini albums, but so far, I haven't been able to make one that I'd show anyone! I look at the numerous albums carried by Flamingo Scraps, wishing I could do them justice. Then, while driving, I had a brainstorm. It was so good it almost hurt. I'd make a Christmas banner for my doorway or fireplace using mini album pages! I chose the Maya Road Chipboard Mixed Scallop Triangle Banner Mini album because the openings for the rings were the right size and shape to use with a ribbon, making sure that I bought two so  more than one banner could be made, not to mention "Christmas" is a long word.

I used a wide variety of papers, inks, mists, and paints to cover the triangles with. Since I had some of the Echo Park Christmas paper leftover from my Christmas in July project and some 25th-Pine from the Ustream December kit, that's where I started. Before I forget, the Ranger Claudine Hellmuth Sticky Back Canvas and the Cosmo Cricket Glitter Sheets, which NEVER shed glitter, are AWESOME to work with. You could actually save some time and trouble by just using those. My letters are Tim Holtz grunge board and painted with TH paints. I outlined them with red and green Stickles so they would stand out.

I used red seam binding to hang my banner. My trims are from my stash, which would have come from the Flamingo Scraps Embellishment Grab Box as well as the Maya Road Scalloped Satin Trim - Cream and the Tu Tu Tulle in Cherry. I love the cream mini organza roses  trims the Big Pink Bird carries, so be sure to check them out. The roses come in many colors, and they hold mists very well. Mine are green to match my holiday theme.The black and white "R" is actually the package of a Heidi Swapp epoxy sheet with Christmas buzz words if I remember correctly. Just goes to show that you can buy great things from FS and even use the packaging.

I made mini rosettes / medallions for embellishments for the bottoms of each section using the die from Tim Holtz. It's a great way to use up scraps, not to mention fun. If you need these or any other items you don't see listed in the store, contact Suzanne and she'll try to fix you up.

You could leave the letters separate and hang the them around your tree, not to mention make yo-yos out of the medallions for Christmas ornaments. Want more versatility with you banner? Make "covers" for it. Simply make triangles a bit bigger than the actual CB triangle, make a cover by stitching or adhering two of them together. Be sure to leave a little wiggle room. Decorate, then slide them over the CB shapes,use ribbon or twine looped through the holes on top, or make your own in the middle tied in a bow and you can reuse it over and over. Just slide everything off of the binding or whatever you use to hang it with.

Well, I suppose I need to get into gear and start decorating. Especially since I have all of these great projects  created with goodies from Flamingo Scraps !!

Mad Tea Party Jewelry Hanger using Jenni Bowlin Hotel Key Holder

Ramona here sharing with you a Marion Smith Mad Tea Party Jewelry Hanger using Jenni Bowlin Hotel Key Holder. I had so much fun making this hanger with all the extra's from the paper line. The 12X12 has sold out from Flamingo Scraps. But, you can ask Suzanne if she could order some for you. I have added a tutorial at the bottom to show you how I transformed this Key Holder.

Mad Tea Party Journal Page

Hello everyone! Ramona here to share with you my newest Journal page. Mad Tea Party Collection by Marion Smith. Oh how I love these papers!! They have all elements in these collections to do what you want with them. But, I felt like a journal page and so this is what I come up with. Also be sure to check out the new embellishments from Marion Smith Designs Junque & Gems. So here is my creation... I used some techniques from Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry on these pages. Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them.

Here I cut the Tea Cups, Tea Pot and Hat out of the papers which I love!!! Just went over them with Glossy Accents and it adds so much dimension to the cut out.

I also cut the quote out using the Silhouette. Fussy cut the flowers added some glossy accents and glitter to them to make them magical.

Chic Coffin - Happy Halloween!!

 I love Halloween for the fun you can have with the dark and macabre, shakes things up a bit.  So with that in mind......

Happy Halloween everyone!!

I made a little present coffin box and dressed it up with a little shabby chic-ness, why not dress up dark and sinister ;).  The coffin opens up and cackles at you, so I thought why not decorate it (it was just plain wood).

 

I sprayed the entire box with 3 colors of Heidi Swapp Color Shine (Georgia peach, Black Velvet, and Chartreuse).  I layered the misting (letting some dry before adding on another layer of spray), plus I also added in some layers of Claudine Hellmuth Studio paint (in similar colors of green, orange, and black).  I then let it all dry before adding on the Halloween Washi tape - Beware of what might lurk inside!!

 Here you can see I used a stencil (you can special order items like the stencils, paint, etc from Flamingo Scraps) to added a layer of Claudine Hellmuth gesso mixed with slow drying medium to create texture.  After it all dried hard I sprayed with the color shine colors again.  I then added in my Prima flower cluster (some also sprayed with color shine to match - the black and green flowers are sprayed ones), and my cute little black spiders from my stash.

Crisp and Fun Fall Projects From the F4 Team

Every month when I look at the F4 projects I think, "Oh! That's cool, I would have done this or that. Hmmm..I could have done that but put this this on it". It's a lot like watching a game show at home and getting all the answers right, but when you actually get onto the show, your brain goes somewhere else.

These are the materials our beloved flock leader gave us to create with this month:

• A 12x12 piece of double sided  paper,
• A chipboard truck,
• A glittery pumpkin,
• A price tag embellishment.

I am always amazed at what everyone comes up with. Here are the ideas from four of our flock members. Enjoy, and I hope we were able to inspire you as well.

GENIE'S PROJECT :

My 10-year-old daughter's best friend actually gave me this idea. Holding the little pumpkin, she said "You should make a little fall centerpiece!" The idea stuck with me, but I wasn't sure how to incorporate the truck chipboard. Suddenly, inspiration hit. It'll be a pumpkin truck, and I'll fill it full of candy!

It took some trimming and re-trimming, but I finally got a little box made to attach to the truck, using the backing from an old paper stack. I used the truck as a model to cut wheels so it could stand up, and then made a strip to fit the length of the truck. I measured 2" on each side of the "body," scored the corners and then 1/4" in from the sides to make tabs to attach to the truck. I cut a bottom the same way, and then taped and glued it in. I covered my little truck in paper, doodled the window, door, and bumpers, and added a few buttons for wheels and lights. Finally, I thought the 5 cent flair was the perfect finishing touch, attached to a Popsicle stick on the back of the truck.

 RAMONA'S PROJECT :

"Wow!" was all I could say when I saw this month's Flamingo 4 products. Yes, I started out in one direction, but ended up going another.That's what I love about doing F4 projects. You end up creating things with items you would never think about putting together. I am into altering things and junkin' it up a bit, so I made a tag. I'm really happy about how it turned out.

I used my Cameo to make the quote, cut my pumpkin in half so it would fit the length of the truck, and yes, I did jack the truck up a bit. LOL! I used Cream Seam Binding , Vintage Photo Distress Stain, and Tim Holtz Distress Paint in Spiced Marmalade for the bow on the tag. KATHLEEN'S PROJECT :

Every year, when we visit our local pumpkin patch, I always complain that I don't have a frame to put the best photo into and display during the fall season. This challenge was just the answer! I had a cheap unfinished wooden frame that I paid less than $1.00 for in my stash, so the transformation began. I covered the frame with the paper in the kit and TRIED to make the truck look realistic with multiple fall colors of Tim Holtz paints. I cut my pumpkin in half to be able to have two. We've been bringing my grandson to the pumpkin patch since he was six months old, so we established "Pete's Pumpkins" for that year.  I used my chalkboard and gel pens for the writing on the truck. The "Fall" title is from my stash and the sign post is nothing more than a painted toothpick. The orange paper in the photo slot is actually the reverse side of the plaid paper, and it will make a perfect mat for my photo.

Being a true scrapper, I hate to toss out scraps, so I used some of my leftovers to make a group invitation to put onto a bulletin board. I reversed my truck and repainted it, and used one of the pumpkin halves from my frame temporarily. The Trick or Treat bag and the bats are made from paper punches using the reverse side of the plaid paper. My date and journal tag are from my FlamingoScraps Warehouse box.

Recipe Mini Album Cover
I first cut my recycled card board (orange packaging) to 5 x 7. It was not perfectly covered. Leaving the bare white core showing, I inked the white portions with TH distress inks, Spiced Marmalade and Peeled Paint, distressed the edges and inked again with with Peeled Paint, then sprayed with Apple Glimmer Mist. 

Next, my patterned paper was cut to 4.5 x 6.5. I distressed the edges and inked with the Peeled Paint ink, again sprayed with the Apple Glimmer Mist and layered over the orange chip board base. I traced the chip board truck onto the orange packaging, layering it behind to add dimension to the Maya Road truck piece.

I painted the bare truck chipboard first with Wild Honey, then around the edges with Spiced Marmalade, allowing each to dry first. I then inked the edges with Spiced Marmalade. In order to use the pumpkin on my cover so it was not just one round piece, I first cut it in half and adhered the flat back to the cover. I took the remaining half and cut that in half, giving me two pieces, which I glued together to resemble a pumpkin pie.

Using the Maya Road stick pins, I inserted the large green as a stem for my pumpkin (I had to trim the pin down with wire cutters, as it was too long for the pumpkin). I added three flowers flower stick pins to the bed of the pick up truck for added interest. The recipe book is bound together using two book rings, allowing me to open and add pages as I collect my pumpkin recipes

The final addition was adding the 45 cent self adhesive price button.
