Scraptathlon Challenge - Week #1

Amanda and I are in this fabulous challenge on Scrapbook.com that is hosted by our dear friend Kia.  It is called Scraptathlon and this is the 8th year Kia has hosted it!  Kia gives us weekly challenges inspired by song titles and we have to scrap a layout within the parameters of the challenge.  For week #1, the song title was "My Old School" by Steely Dan.  The challenge was to scrap a layout using Kia's old school colors of green and gold.  The only other colors allowed were black and white (other than colors in the photo(s)).  Also, the theme of the layout had to be something school related.

Green is my favorite color and green and gold a favorite color combination - this layout went together in a snap!  I used my daughter's junior year photo from high school.  I am determined to use this challenge to scrap a lot of old photos I have already printed!  I Maya Misted the circular die cut behind the photo as well as the off white ribbon pleat.

Flamingo Scraps supplies used:  Bayberry Cottage ribbon pleats, Prima Marketing Gossamer Wings Fern, Cloisonne Flowers Green and Gold, E Line Pearls & Crystals Sunflower, Pink Paislee Summer Soiree Collection papers, Daisy Bucket Little Black Dress Collection border strip, Maya Road Maya Mist Gold Metallic.  Other supplies used:  Green Bazzill cardstock, Rhonna Ferrar die cut sheet.

Our plan is to post our Scraptathlon layouts every weekend.  Amanda went digital for her take on the week #1 challenge but will be posting with me for week #2.  What's the week #2 challenge you ask?  We'll let you know next weekend!

Wanna win?!

Have you seen the Spring Challenge Blog Hop on Sketchy Thursdays this week?!  Well.... Flamingo Scraps is sponsoring not one, but TWO fabulous scrappy prize packs for the challenge!!  I took one look at the sketch and knew it was perfect for a layout I've been brainstorming for a few weeks.  Banners seem to be all the rage right now.  Now me?  I just do not have a place to put one in my house at the moment, so I knew that if I wanted to do a banner it would be a mini one on a layout!  At some point I decided it wouldn't be a banner so much as a clothesline.... add the sketch and this was the result!

From Flamingo Scraps: pink paislee 365 degrees collection patterned paper, ranger glossy accents (to glue down the clothesline!)
Other supplies: making memories mini alphas, american crafts thickers, ecru embroidery thread, date stamp
Color photo taken by Jen Skibo, Passion for Life Photography

Hands down, one of my favorite layouts I've created to date!  Maybe it has something to do with the super gorgeous picture my cousin Jen took (Thanks Jen! Check out her other gorgeous pictures here).... or the happy colors from the pink paislee 365 collection.... or the sketch.... but I ♥ this layout.    I sketched out the shirt and pants on a piece of scrap paper, cut them out and used them as a template.  I had a pen boo-boo on the cute journaling die cut from the set and had to get creative.  I used it as a template to cut another out of a scrap of red patterned paper, glued it down on the die cut to give it a layered look.  Then added a circle cut from a scrap of light blue patterned paper that I distressed.

So hurry on over to Sketchy Thursdays to play along using this fabulous sketch!!

You have until Sunday, April 18th at midnight (EST) to link your entry.  Two randomly drawn participants will win some fabulous scrappy goodness from the big pink bird!!  Good luck!! :)

We Love Boys and a Contest Winner!

First off, let me say congrats to our latest contest winner, Heather Landry.  Heather worked long and hard and managed to figure out which Flamingo Scraps products I had used on my layouts.  So, congrats Heather!  You will be receiving your prize package from Flamingo Scraps shortly.  Oh, and I promise...the next contest will be much easier.

Sometimes I get so busy, loving on all the pink and flowers that I forget to post the layouts I do of my wonderful teenage son. In my desire to share with you all the gorgeous products we have for girls, I neglect to show you what you can do with many of the same items...but for boys.

With the big sale starting tomorrow, I thought I would share a few of these layouts with you.

Last summer, my son broke his arm.  Right at the end of swim season.  Needless to say, he was not too happy.  I used the Lilybee Audrey papers for this layout.  The colors are just gorgeous.  I did a fun technique using puff paint and Utee on the Deborah chipboard.  Tons of fun!  Tutorial to come on Thursday.

Products Used, Lilybee Audrey Papers and Die Cut Frames, Maya Road Deborah Chipboard

I know you have seen me do lots of layouts using the Rebellious line from Prima Marketing with my daughters.  But it is also great for boys.  The fun skulls and crossbones, the graffiti patterns, and checks make it perfect for all teens and tweens.

Products Used, Prima Marketing Rebellious papers, Pink Paislee Glitter Alphabet

And finally some more Lilybee, this time in Vintage Poppy.  Yes, these pages also feature one of my daughters.  But, not really girlie (at least in my opinion).

Products used, Lilybee Vintage Poppy papers.  Prima Say it in Crystals and Studs. Prima Eline flowers.

I hope you find these layouts inspirational.  And remember, that even with Flamingo Scraps being a fabulous place to find all those gorgeous, vintage, shabby things for girl pages...you can also find many wonderful things for boys.  (and On Sale.  hee hee)

Hugs.

Nancy

A Little Contest

My box of yummy new goodies came this week, and like a lot of you, I couldn't wait to find the time to play.  So many fun, new goodies.  The mojo was strong and I so wanted to use everything in my box.  So I created these.....

This one is from a page maps sketch.

And now for the contest.

With these two layouts (3 pages) I used a total of  21 different products that are (were recently, stuff is moving fast) available in the Flamingo Scraps store.

If I used the same item on both pages, it only counts once.  Stickers from the same sheet would also, only count once.  Remember that we also carry mists and it is possible that I have colored an item or two. (hint, hint)

To give you a bit of a start, and because I know two of the items are sold out.....

1.  Prima Pastiche Paper in Vintage Garden
2.  Stickles, Platinum.

So, the first person who replies to this post with the other 19 items, either on Facebook or on the blog, will be the winner of a prize from Flamingo Scraps. (sorry, US residents only)  Deadline for entries is March 15, if at that time we do not have anyone with all 21 items, we will find the person who came the closest.

Good Luck!!!!!

Hugs,

Nancy
