Well Traveled Mini Album

Hello all Flock followers!!!

For this DT project I used the Carta Bella Well Traveled paper line. I must say I love this paper pack!! Not only do you get paper, you also get two sheets of stickers . This mini album was cut from my Cameo with black chipboard. Then, for the cover and side piece, I used an old box cover then added a Tim Holtz binder clip. I added  envelopes and pieces of cardboard for pages. Tim Holtz Hitch Fasteners on the front and the back hang various chains from my stash to make the book binder. I  put sand in one of the mini bottles to make it a beach theme. To find the items used in this project, go to Flamingo Scraps .  Suzanne carries awesome products and if you you can't find what you're looking for, contact  her and she'll do her best to accommodate you. I hope you like this Mini Album. It was super fun to make with this line!!

Spring is Here!

Hello Flockinistas!
Alicia here, back again, this time with a couple of easy cards that I have created for the spring from the great supplies you can get at Flamingo Scraps!

First up, I decided to use the Maya Road Fabric Tape to weave an egg pattern on a card made out of card stock.  I just drew the egg shape on the card and then cut vertical strips within the borders of the egg.  I then cut strips of the fabric tape, and weaved them in and out of the strips to create this woven effect.   I decided to try my hand at the hand stitching that is showing up here and there these days and went around the outside of the woven egg with some green twine. Finally, I created a little sentiment banner with some card stock, rub-ons, and then stamped the polka dots with one of the Prima Washi Tape stamps and Prima Chalk ink in Old Rose.

Next up, I decided that I really wanted to use these FabScraps Pinwheels to create an adorable card for spring.  First, I used some Diamond Glaze and outlined the sections that I wanted for the pink glitter and sprinkled on the glitter.  I let it dry, then came back and repeated with the green glitter.  While that was drying, I got to work on the background of the card.  I used a watermark pen and some white embossing powder to create the cloud shapes and then ran it under my heat gun.  I then took some of the Heidi Swapp Color Shine spray in Mustard and masked off the top part of the card and sprayed where I wanted the "grass" to go.  Then, I followed up by spraying Tropicana Teal all over the front of the card, rubbing over the overlapping portion to make a more green look, and wiping the "clouds" to make sure they stayed white.  Before adhering the pinwheels, I did a little more of the hand-stitching to create the stems of the pinwheels.  The sentiment was created with some scraps and the "hello" stamp from the Maya Road Snapshot Words set (this is SUCH a great set!!) stamped with another of the Prima Chalk inks, and some random letter stamps that I embossed.

I am really pleased with how these cheery spring cards turned out and I just can't wait to send them out!  I love this time of year, and have really been enjoying the wonderful weather that we are having right now (just don't remind me about how hot it's going to be in Houston rather soon!)

Until next time!!

Chust for Pretty -- Spring Jubilee Mini Album!!!

I have this long ago memory, I think from a juvenile book set in the Amish Country of Pennsylvania, of the reason hex signs are painted on many Pennsylvania Dutch barns.  Queried about the symbolism of the hex signs -- were they to ward off evil spirits?  did they have religious significance?  were they some kind of special code? -- an Amish farmer replied in his thick German accent -- they are "Chust for Pretty!"  That really had an impact on me -- an object doesn't have to have deep symbolic meaning to justify its creation -- being pretty is enough.

This is my new mantra for crafting!  I shall no longer put off creating things until I have a reason or someone to give it to.  It makes me happy to craft so, I give myself permission to do it "Chust for Pretty."  And my first project is this Pink Paislee Spring Jubilee mini album.

Pink Paislee was spot on with its collections released at Winter 2012 CHA.  Sugar Chic and Spring Jubilee are easily among my FAVORITE collections ever!!!  Having quenched my desire for Sugar Chic with a little purse mini, I turned my attention to the gorgeous color palette, patterns, and embellishments of Spring Jubilee!  I started with a Maya Road acrylic album --

A Pocket (Purse) Full of Miracles

I have been dying to use Heidi Swapp's Sugar Chic Collection from the first sneak peeks!!! I also wanted to do a project more involved than a layout, the better to utilize the FABULOUS papers and even MORE FABULOUS embellies!!! A mini was the obvious answer! A dear friend of mine from high school is winning her brave battle with cancer, so I thought a sentiment mini for her was perfect! The title of this post refers to one of our group's pet names for a handbag -- a "pocket purse."

My absolute fave -- Heidi Swapp's Sugar Chic papers and embellies and
an adorable Maya Road Clutch Purse Chipboard Album!

Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions Stamps are perfect for sentiment albums --
her pithy, irreverent, and poignant sayings themselves have inspired projects for me!

I painted the interior of the album with teal paint, inked and distressed,
then adhered some paper, and applied Mod Podge to seal.
I Mod Podged paper on the outside of the album,
distressed and inked it and sealed with another coat or two!

The album comes with 8 pages, but with my lumpy embellishing style, I chose to use only four.

Exterior of the finished album -- in addition to the Sugar Chic --
Prima bling, flowers and leaves, Maya Road Trinket Pin, FabScraps Charms,
Tim Holtz bauble, pink tulle fastens the book --
glue stiffens the ends and allows easy opening.

Pages 2 & 3

Closeup of the Heidi Swapp Destination Trim -- this stuff is SERIOUSLY cool!!!!
I kept giggling as I heated it with a heat gun and saw it wiggle and curl!!!

Pages 5 & 6 -- Gluber and Maya Road Tulle Trim, Metal --
American Crafts Dear Lizzie, Maya Road Chipboard, Frantage Embossing Enamel Kit!

I am going to tuck a picture of our group of friends from high school into the album and send it winging its way to Donna, hoping that she will think of friends who love her and that she will smile whenever she sees her Pocket (Purse) Full of Miracles!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Welcome Sophia Elizabeth!

Some dear friends of mine from church recently welcomed a new great-granddaughter, Sophia Elizabeth, born Feb. 14!  I was going off to Scrap and Spa, in Union Pier, Michigan, for my annual scrappy weekend and a mini album was the perfect project to take!

I started with an 8x8 acrylic album I have had so long I don't remember the brand! I chose Crate Paper's Emma's Shoppe collection with lots of embellies from Flamingo Scraps and my stash.

I really love working with acrylics though it can be a challenge to work out both sides looking neat!!

This is my finished cover -- I fussy cut the princess, added Prima bling, buttons, and made a charm of their songbird tiles!

I just love the Studio Calico Wood Veneer Potty People on this page -- a Four Generation picture is so special!

I recently found an old manual typewriter at a thrift store -- $5 and a new ribbon and I was in business!
Here I made jewelry hang tags with time, weight, and length on them.
I made plenty of tags of all sizes to tuck behind photo mats and on pages!

The page on the left is Webster's Pages Sunday Picnic with Prima flowers and leaves.  It coordinated beautifully with Emma's Shoppe!

Prima Trinkets by Marion Smith, seambinding, garment pins, pearls, Maya Road Trinket Pins, Crate Paper Bingo Chips, and miscellaneous embellies and trims ornament these pages!

On the back cover, I used a Maya Road stamp.

One of my favorite things about making minis is lavishing ribbon and trims on the binding rings and tucking in charms!

My friends loved this little book and I had such fun making it!!  I got some other projects done while in Michigan -- can't wait to share them with you!  Thanks for Looking!
