Birthday Wishes for Aunt Darlene

Hey all!  Hope you are getting some sunshine where you are.  We finally have had a least 4 days of sunshine. It sure makes everyone a little bit happier.  It was so nice that I got to work out in my yard.  I am blessed to live where we have spring starting the end of February.  I love all the spring flowers.  The colors and smells makes my heart sing.

On my last post I made a birthday gift for my aunt.  I am doing a follow up on the January 7th post.  I have finished up the mini photo book and made a birthday card.

I had ordered Marion Smith's Garment District and hadn't gotten a chance to use it.  As you may remember I used the Mad Tea Party and Nirvana papers for the gift box along with the the mini. I used the Garment District 6 x 6 papers to make the birthday card.  I love it when you can mix and match.  Awesome!

I cut a sheet of solid color 12 x 12  card stock in half, making it 6 x 12.  I then scored it at 6" to fold in half. I distressed the edges of the paper with my Prima distress tool and Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Pumice Stone.
I layered the paper along with a paper doily. Did you notice the pretty lace and trim from my stash. I used a digi image from Saturated Canary - Maxine (colored with Copic Markers).  Maxine reminded me of my aunt in her garden. The flowers are a mix of stash flowers and Prima flowers sprayed with Heidi Swapp Color Shine.  The little butterfly on the flowers is made from the Mod Podge line and colored with Tim Holtz pens.

On the inside of the card is another 6 x 6 sheet of Marion Smith's Garment District and another digi from Saturated Canary - Tea & a Book (colored with Copic Markers).  How many of you Skype?  My aunt and I spritzen (what my husband calls it) quite often over tea or coffee.  I don't feel so home sick when I get to talk and see her.

Here are a few shots of the completed mini that I promised.  Used my stash all the bling and flowers.   The little blue bird is Mod Podge colored with Tim Holtz pens.

Hope you enjoyed Aunt Darlene's birthday gift and card.  I hope she will love it.  But, most of all I hope I have given you some inspiration.

Wishing you sunshine, warmth and flowers.

Until next time.

Up and Away Easel Card with Nirvana from Marion Smith Designs

This project I decided to use Nirvana from Marion Smith Designs and make a cute Easel Card that I had seen on YouTube. I have seen these before and thought they were so cute so I am adding the link to mybutterflykisses12 tutorial here. This was so fun to create with this line!! I only used 3 sheets of paper and have plenty left. I have thought with this I could make a 4X4 mini album to stick in the drawer that pulls out. I had taken Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry 102 and used some of his techniques on this.

Here is the whole view of my creation.

I also decided that I wanted to make it a bit steam punk so I took black thread and sewed the strings on the hot air balloons.

Here is a view from the top.

Here the drawer open. I have thought with this I could make a 4X4 mini album to stick in the drawer that pulls out.

I also used Nirvana Typography Stamp Set by Marion Smith Designs on this sign.

Here is a list of products used:
Prima Chalk Ink Edgers — Set of 40 Original Colors!!!- I used Knotted Wood and Teal Damask
Prima Tiny Junkyard Findings Vintage Trinkets — Sampler
Seam Binding – Cream
Grid Acrylic Stamp Blocks — Tim Holtz Collection
Prima Classic Orange Roses
Studio Calico Wood Veneer Banners
Prima Classic Daisies Cream
Tim Holtz Distress Paints- Peeled Paint, Broken China and Salty Ocean on the handle of the door
Lindy's Stamp Gang Tiffany Lou Blue and Cream Brulee Cream

If you see something in that I have used on this and it is not in the store...be sure to drop Suzanne a note and ask her if she can get it for you.
Make sure you stop by Flamingo Scraps for all your crafting needs. And do not forget that the store has Warehouse Boxes for sale. Packed full of goodies!!

Alabama...Oh yea!

Hi...this is Cheryl. Anyone like college football? My family and I just love it. There was a cute post on Facebook a few weeks back saying something like "I am sweet as spice until college football begins." That is me to a "T." I just cannot help it. I have always enjoyed watching college football on TV with my Dad and now my husband, but more so since we have moved to Texas. When they show Tuscaloosa, the beautiful campus, and my Bama Boys hit the field...it's time to get loud, rowdy, and yell "Roll Tide!"  Win or lose, we pull for and love Bama!

For my card today I used a scrap piece of black card stock and a top fold card, which measures 4.25" x 11" and scored at 5.50". I cut and inked a piece of the Teresa Collins "Now & Then" designer paper at  3 7/8" x 5 3/8" and added this over the card base, I cut and inked another piece of designer paper at 2" x 3 7/8", and adhered it across the front of the card. I then cut a small 4" piece of the Heidi Swapp banner and glued it to the top edge on my card.

In my stash I found an old football stamp which worked perfect for this card and stamped it in my favorite Prima Dark Rust chalk ink on a scrap of the paper used as my base layer. Have you seen these cool new NCAA stamps made by Clearsnap this year? Just love them and of course I had to get the set with Alabama on them! I stamped the "Alabama Crimson Tide" verse along the bottom of the card,

used another stamp and fussy cut the elephant, and layered it on the football.

The last thing was to tie a knot bow using a black and white gingham on the bottom of the card and I was done!

There are two inks that can be purchased for these stamps. The one I used is the dye ink for paper, but I also have a temporary tattoo ink that can be used on skin. For our first game of the season this year we all sported a variety of tattoo's on our face, arms, and legs. My two Grands thought it was the coolest thing. These stamps are available in most college teams and can be ordered online and delivered to your home by going to the Flamingo Scraps online store here.

I hope you have enjoyed my card for today. For you to receive all of my posts, I would love for you to subscribe to my blog here. To shop and purchase anything I have used today from the Flamingo Scraps online store you can go directly here, and lastly I would love for you to "like" and follow the Flamingo Scraps Facebook Page here.

Happy Scrappin.....Cheryl

It's all about me!

Well, my project is, this week, anyway. I was a little stumped on what to make. I mean, I've done pages and home decor projects and canvases and cards. I've done a December Daily and sketches and everything I can think of. So, I scoured around for inspiration and found this tutorial by Misty Rushlow on the Moxxie blog and decided that would be the way to go. So, I made a file folder mini. It's not exactly a card, and it's not exactly a mini book. It's sort of in between, and I really was excited about how it turned out!

To complete this project, I used a few goodies from the Flamingo Scraps store, and maybe even a few you will find in the Flamingo Scraps warehouse box! I specifically used Pink Paislee Mistables paper (which I am addicted to lately), Websters Pages Coral Chevron Trim, some random Prima flowers, a Melissa Frances Oval Frame, some Maya Road envelopes and alphabets, Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Tropicana Teal, Primrose, Sweet Cherry, Black Velvet, and Georgia Peach, and some other random alphas that I had lying around, plus some Jenni Bowlin pearl flowers.

I don't know if this is complete, as I find it pretty difficult to scrapbook about myself in a journaling aspect, but I was able to get it most of the way done. I love that this album has pockets on the inside that I can add ephemera and other things that I've collected over the years to. I haven't done that yet, but I just may!

Here's a peek at the inside:

I added photos of myself as a baby, a child, my engagement photo with my then-fiancee-now-husband, and a recent family photo. Each of the envelopes has a bit of journaling on paper that follows prompts, like "My Favorite Things," "My Fears," "When I Grow Up..." and "If I knew then what I knew now..."

When's the last time you scrapbooked yourself? This week, I challenge you to do just that, and make sure you include a recent photo, as well! I know, personally, I don't get out from behind the camera often enough, and I'm sure many of you don't, either!

Until next time,
Keep scrappin'!

Rondelle - Card from Scraps

Thank you once again for joining me on my Ustream a few weeks ago.  If you missed it - you can view it here.

For my project share this week, I decided to make a card with the scraps left over from the Rondelle Mini Album kit used in the Ustream earlier in the month.

From Flamingo Scraps:   Prima: Rondelle Flowers, Leaves, Paper, and distress tool. Spellbinders: Hexagons, Fab Scraps: flatback pearls, Pink Paislee - Portfolio Stamp, Maya Road, toile fabric: Stick Pin.  Other: pearls, black card stock.

I used a sheet of the Rondelle paper as my base.  Then made some little fishtail banners from strips of the left over toile fabric.  Fab Scraps' flat back pearls accented the banners perfectly.  Then I added a few of flowers and a Rondelle leaf to the base of a Hexagon that was die cut from another sheet of the Rondelle.  I thought this "hello" stamp from Pink Paislee was perfect for the top of the torn tag that was laying on my desk.

This simple little card used so many of the left over supplies from the mini album project I created live.

If you have created something inspired by my Ustream, please share it on Flamingo Scraps Facebook Wall. Make sure you  tag me so that I see it. I love seeing your creations.

Distress Markers - How To

I have had a ball playing with my distress markers.  I decided to make a card for my niece's 7th birthday that is the first week of Sept.
I colored two images of the Ms. Anya Hats from - The Greeting Farm, and cut pieces of her out and popped them up on pop dots to giver her more depth.  She was colored with the Tim Holtz Distress Markers, then placed on a sheet of the Celebration's Paper from Webster's Pages.

From Flamingo Scraps:  Webster's Pages Celebration 6x6, Trims, Roses, Tim Holtz Distress Markers.  Others: Making Memories #7, Baker's Twine, Washi Tape, The Greeting Farm -  Ms. Anya Hats, and Inkadinkadoo - Birthday Stamp.

For a complete step by Step of me coloring Ms. Anya.  Please watch this video.

Here is a video of me making the card:

Sunday Picnic Card

Oh I'm sooo in love with the new Webster's Pages collections Sunday Picnic and Perfect Motifs.  The papers feel like linen and the soft muted colors are fun and playful. I love the balloons, kites, and summer bright flowers.

I am totally on a card making kick right now and decided to use the Rainbow Sky page from the Sunday picnic as my background for the card.

From Flamingo Scraps: Webster's Pages: Sunday Picnic, Perfect Motifs, Ranger: Glossy Accents, Laces, Prima: Eline - Daisies and HydrangeasOther:  Copic Sketch Markers: 0, E00, E11, E25, E31, E35, E37, E47, E50, R02, BV0000, BV00, BV02, BV04, C1, C5, C9, The Greeting Farm: Ms Anya Dressy Stamp, Studio G: "Just For You" Stamp, Webster's Pages online: Digi stamps: Lady & Gents Brushes and Journal Cards.

The girl is a Copic colored Greeting Farm stamp from Ms. Anna Dressy. I decided to frame her with one of the digi brushes from Webster's pages. The balloons are at various heights with pop dots to give them depth, a touch of glossy accents were added to them to give them shine.  I cut the bicycle, balloons and "play" from the motifs stack, added a few Prima flowers and rhinestone centers, then trimmed out the base with some lace from Flamingo.

Happy Mother's Day Card

In honor of Pink Paislee week I thought I would create a mother's day card. For this card I used the Pink Paislee Sweetness & Parisian Anthology Lines. Both were pieces of scraps, which I love to use on cards. The background paper is the "Love Notes" paper from the Sweetness Collection, I cut the envelope from Parisian Anthology scraps, and the corrugated chipboard accents (Heart, flags, and butterfly) are Parisian Anthology as well.

I spread some Texture Crackle Paste from DecoArt over the background layers to bring forward "love notes" layer. After the crackle paste dried, I covered the entire card backing with Picket Fence Stain from Tim Holtz. This really softened up the bright colors of the paper, and gave me a chance to bring elements into the forground.

I wanted my card to open differently. I've been working on invitations for my daughter's graduation, and I noticed a card backing called a "Z- FOLD” they basically fold in the Z fashion and then either display flat or in the z shape. Well I decided to modify this a bit using a square card. This way my Mom can display the card on her dresser open so that the front of the card and the sentiment are both displayed at the same time.

Here is a view of the card opened as you can see here the inside displays with the outside of the card. Love this effect!

Don't forget about the Pink Paislee sale that is going on now through Sat., May 12! And, yes, that includes the new Declaration mini release! Winter CHA 2012 releases Spring Jubilee, She Art by Christy Tomlinson, and Sugar Chic, No Limits, and Destinations by Heidi Swapp are marked down. Additionally, Pink Paislee Mistables, Parisian Anthology Chipboard Dimensions and Bling will be deeply discounted.

Thanks for stopping in today, and Happy Mother's Day to all!
