December Daily Ustream Recap

In our November 4, Ustream I told everyone that we would work on our December Daily Journals TOGETHER.   To catch everyone up to speed, we created our covers.  The back covers are plain at this point, I may get inspired to add to them as we go. Here is a photo of the front and inside covers.

I have created a play list on my YouTube channel titled December Daily 2013 that includes tutorials, and the Nov. Ustream recordings.  Hopefully, this Play list will provide an easy reference for you to follow along.

> Click here to begin watching.

As a recap - we are using the beautiful 25th & Pine from Basic Grey for this year's journal. Kits are available at Flamingo Scraps  for $29.99.

In our December 2 Ustream, we will begin building week 1 of the journal and I will show you how to do some fun tags for your daily numbers.  Follow me each week on my blog, and the Flamingo Scraps Facebook page, for weekly updates as I create my own journal.  Hopefully it will help inspire you to create your own.

Thanks for stopping in today,

Ustream Tonight!

Hi everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  December is right around the corner, and I know everyone is going to get BUSY!   So tonight we are starting our December Daily journals early.

I hope you can join us at 8:30 p.m. est. on Ustream.

This month we are going to feature the 25th and Pine line by Basic Grey.

http://flamingoscraps.com/product-category/basic-grey/
http://flamingoscraps.com/product-category/basic-grey/

We decided to break this project up into sections so that we can cram as many techniques and details as possible, without feeling rushed.  Tonight's class is going to focus on making our covers, and perhaps a few embellishments.

Then, on December 2nd, we will focus on making our embellishments and parts of our book.  Each week, I will feature my pages from the week on my blog at http://www.psychomomscrapbooks.blogspot.com  so you can follow along through the entire month of December. These blog posts will also be posted to the Flamingo Scraps Facebook page.  Don't forget to sub to both so you don't miss the weekly tutorials!

Pinkie is trying to put together a mini kit for the covers, but you can still follow along. Make sure you purchase the 25th & Pine collection so you get it before the December Class! We would love to see how your books look.

We hope to see you there!  As always, we will do our best to record for those who can't make it live.

Ustream - Monday July 1

Here in the Flamingo Scraps Pond we are kicking off Christmas in July.  We thought it would be nice to get a jump start on your holiday decor, cards, and daily journals.  So the design team is going to flood our blog with awesome projects to kick start your holiday juices.

I hope you can join us Live on Monday night - July 1 on Ustream at 8:30 p.m. est

We are going to make a few Christmas ornaments that are simple for children to make.  They are great home decore items, or could be used on  packages rather than bows.

I will feature papers in the Flamingo Scraps bargin bin from Carta Bella and Echo Park. These kits  have been greatly reduced to $16 and are going to go FAST!

We hope you can join us live, but as always we will try to record the show in case you miss it.

Hope to see you in the chat on Monday night!

City Sidewalks Ustream - Part 2

Thank you to everyone for their support at the Ustream on Monday, Nov. 5.  We had a fabulous turn out.   Ustream was misbehaving, but it did manage to record 90% of the class. It did so in 5 parts, but at least it is there. If you were unable to watch the show live there are multiple parts on the channel at http://ustream.tv/channel/gibbst

Join us on  Monday, Nov. 12 at 8:30 p.m. EST for Part Two of the City Sidewalks mini album.  In this class we will embellish the book, and learn ways to use the scraps in creative ways. There will also be time for questions since the Ustream Monday night was so choppy.

There is still 1 kit available for purchase. If you are interested, please email Suzanne at Flamingoscraps@yahoo.com.  For full kit details - please visit this blog post.

Thanks for stopping in today,

Rondelle - Card from Scraps

Thank you once again for joining me on my Ustream a few weeks ago.  If you missed it - you can view it here.

For my project share this week, I decided to make a card with the scraps left over from the Rondelle Mini Album kit used in the Ustream earlier in the month.

From Flamingo Scraps:   Prima: Rondelle Flowers, Leaves, Paper, and distress tool. Spellbinders: Hexagons, Fab Scraps: flatback pearls, Pink Paislee - Portfolio Stamp, Maya Road, toile fabric: Stick Pin.  Other: pearls, black card stock.

I used a sheet of the Rondelle paper as my base.  Then made some little fishtail banners from strips of the left over toile fabric.  Fab Scraps' flat back pearls accented the banners perfectly.  Then I added a few of flowers and a Rondelle leaf to the base of a Hexagon that was die cut from another sheet of the Rondelle.  I thought this "hello" stamp from Pink Paislee was perfect for the top of the torn tag that was laying on my desk.

This simple little card used so many of the left over supplies from the mini album project I created live.

If you have created something inspired by my Ustream, please share it on Flamingo Scraps Facebook Wall. Make sure you  tag me so that I see it. I love seeing your creations.

Blowing Kisses Layout

Last week at the high school football game, my cute little niece,  Addie, was standing in the end zone blowing kisses.  I used the picture on a layout that was inspired by Jamie Dougherty's Live with Prima last Thursday night.  I learned some new techniques and thought it would make a nice follow up to my Ustream class.

From Flamingo Scraps:   Prima: Songbird and Almanac Paper, Vine, distress tool, Flowers, Trinkets. Liquitex: Gesso, Liquitex Molding Paste.  Other: Twine, stencil, charcoal pencil, ribbon, charms, and corrugated card board.

I started by distressing all the edges with my new Prima Distress tool.  (LOVE THIS).  To soften the background, I brushed white gesso over the paper, and then used molding paste to add texture.  This is a great way to soften busy or bright patterned paper.  Gesso was also added to some of the layers to try and merge them back into the background.  This technique really helps the photo take center stage, and also makes the smaller photo appear larger.

I was able to incorporate a lot of scraps from the Almanac collection, and you guys know how much I love using scraps. I cut banners from scraps, and used small pieces of scrap paper to frame around the picture.   Jamie's technique of having the banners travel vertically and horizontally throughout the layout, really make the layout dramatic and serve as arrows leading your eye back to the photo. This is definitely going to be used in more of my future projects.

While I often cut my vines in half, rarely do I arrange them diagonally, usually mine are in more of  a L shape, horizontal or virticle.  I love how all the elements appear to be drawing your eye back to the center fo the layout.  I incorporated scraps of small vines and leaves from previous projects in the negative spaces of the vines.  Again - love using up those small pieces.
