Wall Hanging Calendar

Abigail here and I'm back with a  project that I really had fun making! It's a little late, I know, but I really needed a calendar for my office at work. The bosses usually give me one every year, but not this year. I really like to glance over and see the date for a quick reference while I'm on the phone or working on a project. I have been pulling up my Google calendar, but when I have so many other programs open at work it can be really hard to open that window quickly. I tossed around the idea of making a desk calendar but I hate clutter and I already feel like my desk is too full. So, the idea was born to make a wall calendar. I used a Heidi Swapp Vintage Chic Memory File as the base and added papers for each month.
I really wanted to personalize it and make it all girly and frilly. I also have been sooo excited about all the new trends coming out of the CHA releases, so I wanted to incorporate a few of those as well. Here you can see the feather trend, one of my favs. I love feathers, so romantic and elegant. I even had feathers in my wedding bouquet! So needless to say I am a huge fan. You can get the feather trend with the new Jenni Bowlin items at the Flamingo Scraps store. They have rubons, cardstock, kraft tags, vintage tags and chipboard pieces all in feather shapes.

Stick pins are another favorite of mine. They can be used so many ways. I used them here to anchor a banner and paired that with a chipboard arrow to make an embellishment cluster. The background paper is from the Pink Paislee Secret Crush collection.
Another of the big trends this year is mixed media. One of the easiest ways to incorporate this into your paper crafting is by getting a color mist. The droplet effect above was made with Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Sweet Cherry. It looks red in the bottle, but dries to the richest dark pink color. I simply take the lid off and flick the tube end toward my project and the drops go flying! Of course, you should try to aim where you want the ink...Metal embellishments add depth and really dress up your projects.

This flower is made from three different sized coffee filters. I simply misted them, let them dry, stacked them, twisted the center part, glued it and scrunched! This was seriously too easy to turn out this pretty!

I love this metal butterfly! It adds instant class and elegance.

These metal pieces are so pretty stacked on top of each other.

Here's a cluster made with an arrow and a piece of the 6x6 Pink Paislee Secret Crush paper.

Clothes pins add a nice touch to a banner garland.

This page has a quote that is so true. I love being creative!!!! This paper on top is from the Pink Paislee Secret Crush collection and the paper on the bottom is from the Teresa Collins Now and Then collection.

Pop up dots add to the effect of these hexagon shapes. These were made using Secret Crush 6x6 papers from Pink Paislee.

A metal heart and a chipboard butterfly round up this embellishment cluster. I love how rich and bold the Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Sweet Cherry is sprayed over the butterfly.

Another HUGE trend: arrows!!! They are so much fun to incorporate into your projects and they add instant emphasis to your focal point. This one is sprayed with Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Sweet Cherry.

I wanted the top of the folder and the feather to still show whenever I flipped up a new page so I made the pages a lot shorter than the folder. I was then going to use magnets to hold the papers up since my hole I used to hang the calendar with is taller than the papers. That didn't work to well. I guess my pages are too heavy, lol.  I decided  to use a decorative stick pin to hold up the papers. This top paper is from the Teresa Collins Now and Then collection. The bottom paper is Heidi Swapp No Limits Schematic. This is the month of April and it will be our 2nd anniversary! For this month I chose a pic of him right before our ceremony began, a pic of our rings and one of him looking thrilled to be holding my bouquet for me.

I added a piece of Teresa Collins Now and Then washi tape and some glitter glue to highlight our special date!

Stick pins and a burlap flower from Maya Road make the perfect embellishment cluster

This is a Pink Paislee Secret Crush Polaroid style frame and and tab--very trendy with  us Instagram users! The film strip on the left side  as well as the doilies under the pics are also trending big right now. I actually cut these doilies out of paper from the Pink Paislee Secret Crush collection. I was looking at the clock in the pic and it looks like this picture was taken 7 minutes before our wedding ceremony began. Does he look nervous? lol!

I love how the feather still peeks out and is visible from all the other pages! The top paper is Heidi Swapp No Limits Schematic.

The chipboard hand was originally the classic rock and roll sign, but I thought it would be cute as reminder string sign so I cut the pinkie off. I spayed it and the tag chipboard with the Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Sweet Cherry. This color of Color Shine matches the 6x6 Pink Paislee Secret Crush paper perfectly, just FYI. I love the decorative paper clip, so cute!

This was a fun page, just reminding myself to slow down and enjoy the journey.

These enamel dots made a splash this last year and are an ever so fashionable way to dress up your projects.

This was such a fun quote!

These chipboard lock and key pieces were misted with Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Sweet Cherry and layered over a flower with stick pins to make the cutest embellishment cluster!
