Weekend Whimsy: E-Line Pearls and Crystals -- Instant Classic

If I had to choose one product from the years I have been scrapping for the BEST -- hands' down, it would be Prima's E-line Pearls and Crystals.  We have lost count of the times we have ordered them!

These little beauties debuted at CHA Summer 2009 and became an instant classic and must have!  They come in 30 different color combinations, have 60 gems and pearls in graduated sizes on each card, and they are ONLY $1.49.
We love them soooooo much -- Amanda even created an altered holder just for these little goodies.

Hope Prima never stops making them -- especially since we need to reorder!!

Guest Design Team Roundup: October 2010

Welcome to this month's Guest Design Team roundup!! It's been a busy month for everyone... look at all these fabulous creations!!

This month Diana made lots of use out of her scrappy supplies in addition to the three blog posts she shared with us this month!!
From Flamingo Scraps:  Sassafrass Lass Indie Girl Collection and that cute button from her post a few days ago!

From Flamingo Scraps: Pink Paislee Old School collection

And Diana says... For the first layout, I used the Sassafras Lass Indie Girl collection. I love how the banners come on a sticker sheet, and the variety of patterns and colors in this line. The papers just make everything seems so fresh and fun.  And for the second layout, I used the Pink Paislee Old School collection. I'm not usually a big fan of die cut pages, but I do love this die cut's shape. It helped to frame off the action images I wanted to use, showing Nate's motion running and twirling into the leaves. Great colors in this line, too. Very rich, bold and classic.

More of Diana's work can be seen here on her blog and make sure you swing by Sketchy Thursdays to play along with her fantastic weekly sketch challenge!

This month Janet made some more gorgeous layouts!

Jolaine also added crushed shells, sand and cheese cloth for texture! (Isn't that a great idea?!)

From Flamingo Scraps: Pink Paislee Queen Bee Collection (patterned papers, pleated ribbon and bella brads); Prima (flowers)
Other Supplies:  Tattered Angels bingo card and crochet doily

Other supplies:  Martha Stewart Monarch butterfly punch

And Tonya says... These are the people who worked round the clock to save my life last year when I laid in a 6 week coma.  I will forever be grateful for them. Thank you North Florida Regional Medical Center ICU staff.  The butterflies were punched from a Martha Stewart Monarch butterfly punch, then dipped in liquid UTEE.

Hocus Pocus for Your All Hallow's Eve!!!

All Hallow's Eve has become a night of frolic,
where children wear costumes and run amok!
Hocus Pocus

Pink Paislee's scarily cute Halloween collection, HOCUS POCUS, is available at Flamingo Scraps just in time to scrap all those adorable pics of children wearing costumes, frolicking, and running amok (especially after 19 candy bars!).  The matching embellishments are wickedly cool, but what else do we have in our bag of tricks and treats that coordinates with Hocus Pocus??

Halloween brings out the scary and pretty makeup, so why not some makeup for your layouts and paper projects -- the greens, orange, purple, black and a little granite blue in the papers are made for mists and stickles and inks and glam in shades like Haunting Shadows, Licorice Metallic, Salmon, and Paprika.

What would Halloween be without sparkle from Maya Road's Ultrafine Glitter in Iridescent and Licorice and Kaisercraft's orange bling.  Add to that Prima flowers (yes flowers for Halloween) Sugarplum Roses Chestnut, Sweet Taffy in lavender, and Clementine's in Tuxedo -- and don't forget the fabulous 7 Gypsies Rubbings!
Come on  people grab up some of this FABULOUS Hocus Pocus and coordinating embellishments -- and while you are waiting for it to arrive -- use these images to plan your Halloween photos with Ouija Boards, skeletons, and spider webs!!  BWAAAAHHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Maya Road Glittered Mini Christmas Trees

Christmas crafting items are starting to appear in the stores en masse, and we papercrafters know to shop early to get the best selection!!  I found these white bottle trees in sets of two (about 3 1/2" and 5") at our local dollar store.  Cute as they are -- they can always be better and I thought of the new Maya Road Ultrafine Glitter we just got in at Flamingo Scraps!

I painted glue on the ends of the branches -- I used Martha Stewart Glittering Glue
and a regular paintbrush, but any white glue should do as well.

The next step was sprinkling on the glitter --
I used a glittering/embossing tray to catch the extra glitter and
to make it easier to return the unused glitter to the container!
Spraying the trees with a clear floral sealer will help adhere the glitter

These little trees are still fragile, as glittered objects are wont to be,
but with care they should last for years to come!
It is time to check out your local stores for Christmas crafting finds.  Don't leave the dollar store off your list of places to visit!  And don't leave Flamingo Scraps off your list of places to find just the right embellishments to dress up your finds!!

Weekend Whimsy: Scissors -- A Sharper Image

The vast majority of paper crafters would answer "scissors" when asked what is the most basic, important tool you must have to paper craft (No, I'm not counting paper as a tool!).  I know I would -- I am a scissors collector!  I have at least one pair of scissors in most every room and closet  in my house.

Without a doubt, there are going to be TONS of people who disagree with the techniques in this post!  However, these things work for me, so here goes!

None of my scissors are the expensive,  really nice kind that really need to be sharpened by a pro or sharpened on a stone, though I do have some for purposes other than paper that are the "ginsu" type that are not supposed to need sharpening.  So, for most of my scissors, I use do-it-yourself methods to keep them in good working order.

Every so often, I pull out  the aluminum foil, the wax paper, and the nail polish remover and go to town on my collection.  I ususally do this while watching TV - but never a scary movie or a football game!  Making multiple cuts through the foil sharpens the scissors, cutting through the wax paper seems to help keep them from getting gummy, and nail polish remover takes off the sticky gunk when the wax paper doesn't work.  Once cleaned and sharpened, I try to keep my cutterbees in their plastic shields.

I've heard some people use sand paper instead of foil, but it seems to me that might nick your blades and once you have a nick, all the foil in the world won't get rid of it!  It is time to toss those babies, have them professionally sharpened, or use them for things other than paper crafting.  Better yet -- get yourself a pair to cut wire and any other material that might nick your paper scissors!

Now if I could only find that favorite pair of pink cutterbees -- if I had put them back in the shield where they belong......

What Goes With What? Parisian Anthology!

What goes with Pink Paislee's FABULOUS Parisian Anthology?  Well, we think the answer to this is EVERYTHING!!!  Pink Paislee and the House of 3 have really gone outside the box with the gorgeous embellishments that coordinate with this long-awaited collection -- flowers, incredible bling, and paper embellies.  But the greatest thing about this paper is that it is meant to be ALTERED to ANY COLOR you choose!!  Frankly, I was scared to death to put inks and mists to this paper with its natural resist patterns, but after watching this fantastic video on the Pink Paislee site, I jumped in and it is easy peasy!!

So, having said everything goes with Parisian Anthology -- here are the samples I altered with Tim Holtz Distress Inks, Maya Mists, and Glimmer Mists -- all available at Flamingo Scraps!

Parisian Anthology altered with Tim Holtz Distress Inks -- left to right --
Victorian Velvet, Antique Linen, Chipped Sapphires

Using Maya Mists to Alter Parisian Anthology -- left to right -- Raspberry Blue Metallic,
Cherry Metallic, and Charcoal.  The left half of the Charcoal sample has been misted with
Iridescent Pearl Maya Mist.

Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists -- Delphinium Blue, Pomegranate, Timeless Lilac
As shown in the video, I found it helpful to wipe away the excess medium that doesn't stick to the resist pattern.  It is like uncovering a treasure and gives a buffed appearance to the pattern.

Is there a color palette you would love to have but never seem to be able to find, a special picture you just can't find the right paper for?  Pink Paislee's Parisian Anthology just granted your wishes!!!

Guest DT Diana Fisher: Maya Road Chipboard Buttons

Hello, it’s Diana with you today.

I want to share with you how you can use your sticker sheets and raw chipboard to make well-coordinated embellishments. Just because you don’t have the chipboard pieces that match a paper set doesn’t mean you can’t make some yourself!

From Flamingo Scraps: Maya Road chipboard buttons
Other Supplies:  Sassafrass Lass stickers

I used Sassafras Lass stickers and Maya Road raw chipboard buttons to make these embellishments.

The best part about using stickers is no glue to worry about. And you are able to save all of that beautiful paper you have by not cutting tiny little corners off just to cover a 1-inch piece of chipboard.

For some added dimension, I popped the chipboard button up off of the bottom sticker with a Pop Dot.

I made 3 embellishments that I will use later when my Indie Girl papers from Sassafras Lass land on my doorstep this week—via Flamingo Scraps, of course!

I saved them on a sheet of acetate while I wait. You could always adhere them back to the original sticker sheet if you’d prefer.

And there you have it… homemade chipboard to match your paper sets using the sticker sheets.

Thanks for reading the blog today!!

More of Diana's work can be seen here on her blog and make sure you swing by Sketchy Thursdays to play along with her fantastic weekly sketch challenge!

The beautiful collection Sweetness by Pink Paislee was actually designed and released to celebrate the growing popularity of The Sweetest Day -- but we're sure you will find it to be an all pupose  romantic vintage inspired collection to use now, for Valentine's Day and all year round -- because everyday there is someone or something sweet in life, and everyday an opportunity to be kind.
