Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes!

Remember the scene in Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette that showed all the lacy, sparkly, frivolous shoes?  Or think of any episode of Sex and the City (or the movies) and Carrie's over the top Manolos!  That's what I thought of when I saw the new "shoe" issue of Scrap and Stamp Arts magazine (July 2010).  My favorite project is these little (5 1/4 inches long!) paper shoes (instructions and template in the magazine).

This is the first one I made, inspired by the Paul Simon song "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes"!  I used scraps of Prima's Morning Song collection, Prima Parlor Petals in Tudor, lots of scraps of Prima bling and Prima lace.  I layered Tim Holtz distress inks in Antique Linen and Tattered Rose and spritzed the whole thing in Tattered Angels Candlelight Glimmer Mist!

I made this little shoe on Memorial Day using scraps of Webster's Pages Sweet As Cherry Pie collection, stars from a Prima Galaxy Stars vine in white. It is inked with Tim Holtz inks in Fired Brick and Antique Linen and again I used the Candlelight Glimmer Mist!

And this last little shoe was inspired by scraps of Prima's Flights of Fancy, some of it already cut into butterfly shapes!  This one is inked with Tim Holtz Spun Sugar, painted with Ranger's Glossy Accents  and trimmed with Cheep Trims lace, tiny butterflies  with Prima bling bodies and more scraps of Prima bling. The beaded wire spray (instructions in Lisa Pace's Delight in the Details) with a Maya Road Hanging Chandelier bead is attached with a Maya Road crystal trinket pin.  The flower is a Prima Symphony Blend Capella Blue rose dunked in UTEE, sprinkled with some pink German glass glitter and bling, and topped off with Prima white rose leaves highlighted by Antique Linen Distress Stickles and a UTEEed butterfly!

I may not be Marie Antoinette or Carrie Bradshaw -- but I have found a way to indulge my passion for shoes for just pennies!!!

AND -- if you are a big shoe fan like me -- trot those stillettos on over to Julie's challenge blog -- These Are a Few of My Favorite Things -- where they are celebrating their First Anniversary and getting published, the challenge is Favorite Shoes and FLAMINGO SCRAPS is one of their proud sponsors!!!
Prima Flowers, Prima Say It In Crystals, Prima Paper, Tim Holtz Distress Inks and Distress Stickles, Ranger, and Webster's Pages, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, and Cheep Trims Lace are available at FLAMINGO SCRAPS!

  6. Just saw the shoes that you made from my article and template in Scrap and Stamp Arts Magazine. You did a very nice job with them.

The article can (and magazine) can still be back ordered.

Love the idea of the crystals on the bottom of the shoes.

If you slip a piece of wire between the upper and lower soles, it will allow you to keep the shoes flat. However, you wouldn't want it flat if you are putting crystals on the bottom of the shoes.
