Are you ready to mist?

All right, grab that cup of coffee and get ready for all things mist in honor of the fact that as of yesterday, Flamingo Scraps is carrying Glimmer Mist!

First up, a few of our favorite projects past using mists:

Daisy Buckets is going out of Business!

Sad but true, Daisy Buckets is going out of business.  I have always loved their double-sided paper collections!  The paper has a fabric feel to it and the reverse side of the UPC tear strip can be used as a coordinating border - what great idea that is!

Scraptathlon Challenge - Week #1

Amanda and I are in this fabulous challenge on Scrapbook.com that is hosted by our dear friend Kia.  It is called Scraptathlon and this is the 8th year Kia has hosted it!  Kia gives us weekly challenges inspired by song titles and we have to scrap a layout within the parameters of the challenge.  For week #1, the song title was "My Old School" by Steely Dan.  The challenge was to scrap a layout using Kia's old school colors of green and gold.  The only other colors allowed were black and white (other than colors in the photo(s)).  Also, the theme of the layout had to be something school related.

Green is my favorite color and green and gold a favorite color combination - this layout went together in a snap!  I used my daughter's junior year photo from high school.  I am determined to use this challenge to scrap a lot of old photos I have already printed!  I Maya Misted the circular die cut behind the photo as well as the off white ribbon pleat.

Santa? In May?!

Yep, it's May and I'm scrapping Christmas pictures.  From two years ago!

From Flamingo Scraps: pink paislee 365 degrees patterned paper, pink paislee black dot artisan tapes, coconut pink paislee expressions ambrose alpha, mini black ball trim, Prima say it in pearls flourish, cherry metallic maya mist

Other supplies:  Cricut doodlecharms (tree, presents) and sweethearts cartridges (cartouche -- journaling block), Craft Robo cut titles (Scarlet and Santa Claus)

These are the outtakes from our Christmas card in 2008 of our dog Scarlet.  The final card used that last picture next to the journaling block.  After seeing Susan paint the resin on her flourish, I had to add it to mine.  So glad that I did.  Here is a close-up of both sides:

Baby Love

Some days I really miss those sweet days of having a baby. Then, I remember the diapers, the late nights, the lack of sleep....and I am glad that mine are a little older now. Fortunately for me, my sister has a baby, so I can get my baby fix, you know...the smells...the smiles...the baby-ness of it all...and then go home and sleep through the night! lol

Whenever we do get together I always have my camera handy because...babies are just so dang cute. I loved this photo of my niece and was thrilled to find the Lullaby Lane papers from Websters Pages were the perfect match.

To add contrast to the papers and pull out more colors I inked all the papers with a bit of Mustard Seed Distress Ink.  And I added some beautiful Blommers and some Prima Innocence flowers I painted with Glimmer Mists.  A bit of Stickles on the title and.....

Tutuorial: Painting Resin & Flowers with Maya Mist

A quick little tutorial to start the week!  So I pulled out all the supplies for my layout:

Supplies used from Flamingo Scraps:  Webster's Bloomer; Prima Entredeux stitched paper, white say it in pearls flourish, white fairytale roses, love story kissing pink flowers, maya mist cotton candy metallic and iridescent pearl

Up first, painting the resin.  Easy, just grab your bottle of mist, unscrew the cap and dip in your paintbrush.  I left the flourish on the plastic and painted it carefully.

I used cotton candy metallic maya mist and carefully painted the resin roses.  The resin works great with the mists because the mist is water based and it will soak right into the resin.  Spill a little on the bling?  Just wipe it off and it won't stain your pearls or crystals!

Up next were my white prima roses, which I sprayed a little water on.  Easier to get the flowers wet first before applying the mist with a paint brush.  Helps the mist spread easily down the petals to the center:

When I was done painting, the flowers looked like this:

A quick spritz with some iridescent pearl maya mist and they were ready to embellish my layout.

I love how this layout of my daughter Jessica's senior picture turned out.  It went together so quickly with all these fabulous embellishments from Prima and Websters.  Check back on Wednesday to see a layout Amanda made using the same technique to dress up a smaller say it in crystals flourish from Prima.

Color Love

When I saw the new Seaside Garden line from Webster's Pages I fell in love with the colors.  The mix of colors and patterns, while perfect for travel (all those suitcases and seahorses) also suited my Easter photos perfectly.  The aqua and yellow (you know how I am loving aqua) contrasted nicely with the pink and brown my daughter was wearing.

Just be

I am loving some of the new color pallets that are fresh for this spring.  The mix of aqua blue and lime green with kraft is definitely a fave.

For this project I mixed a few yummy goodies from Websters Pages' Life's Portrait line with beautiful Primas and threw in some super fun Stickles on my butterflies.  The Stickles make glittering the chipboard so much neater.  No glue, no glitter...just use the applicator to get the desired results.

Two of a Kind

Have you seen Pink Paislee's new Starlight collection?!   I'm in ♥!!   Here's a two-page layout I made of my Dad and nephew:

This was my first time using the pink paislee expressions cotton distressed alphas and let me tell you, I was impressed!  They are thick chipboard and totally easy to use.  As for the sheet of cardstock stickers for the Starlight collection, they are glittered and fabulous!  The sheet even comes with a mini banner all ready to go. 

So hurry on over to the store and go get some before it's all gone from !

More Banners

I am loving the banner trend right now in scrapbooking.  It really gives your page such a fun little pop.  And, banners, unlike flowers, are not as gender specific.  Which, for me, having a teen age boy is always a big plus.

For this layout of my son, I used the Maya Road chipboard banner pieces which I had spritzed with a bit of Red Metallic Maya Mist (so much easier and neater than painting).  I also used Pink Paislee 365 Degrees papers and some of the Glitter Chipboard alphabets.  The flowers (yeah, I know, I just said gender specific) are made from spirals of different scraps of papers.  And the circle shape makes them a little more masculine I think.  I also spritzed the kraft cardstock with a bit of blue mist to tie the whole thing together.

Bayberry Cottage Page Kit: Layout #2

We are all back from the beach today and already wishing for our next scrapbooking retreat!   We had a wonderful time scrapping together and can't wait to show you all the fabulous stuff we made.  I finally finished up my second layout I made using my pink paislee Bayberry Cottage kit - a layout for my nephew's album about his first haircut:

Not only was this kit great for girly layouts, it also worked well for masculine ones.  It's all in how you put it together!  So in review of my page kitting process... I started with this:

And ended up with these five completed items:

In the end, all that was left is a really small amount of scraps!  I feel like it's a great way to stretch three pieces of patterned paper, 8 pieces of cardstock and get a lot done in a limited amount of time.
